I read my first crime fiction book when I was in my teens. Up until then I had been reading heroic fantasy novels, dreaming of slaying dragons and saving the world. I’m not sure what drew me into the world of crime – certainly not participating in it, I can assure you – but perhaps it was the fascination of what goes on in the human mind and what it is capable of.
Over the years I’ve developed a keen interest in the Scandi-noir genre, as I’m sure my readership can attest to. However, I’ve also found pleasure in reading works from across the pond. Below are selection of some of teh books I have enjoyed and you might too.
The Concrete Blonde
A young couple are offered a golden opportunity to spend the summer in New York house sitting. Someone else shows up who proves just too good to be true!
The House Guest is a chilling psychological thriller from Mark Edwards who has sold three million books.
The Fifth Justice
Michael Gresham and Marcel, his investigator, go on the hunt for a client’s missing wife. She has been nominated to the U.S. District Court, and now she can’t be found.
This story weaves several sub plots that come together in the end – something I particularly enjoy doing myself!
The Pelican Brief
This is a classic conspiracy thriller. A law student finds a pattern in the deaths of a number of supreme court judges and complies a document explaining it.
The one person she trusts with the information is killed and then they come after her… A well structured book as you might expect and well worth a visit even if you’ve already read it years ago…
